About Finca Bella Vista

Finca Bella Vista is one of the few properties in the Perené Valley, Chanchamayo, that grows the Geisha variety above 1,850 meters. Clay-loam soils of Andean origin, an average temperature of 18 °C and well-distributed rainfall create ideal conditions for this legendary variety. There it unfolds its extraordinary floral potential and a cup complexity unique in Peruvian specialty coffee.

The story of Finca Bella Vista

The land at Bella Vista was turned over to specialty coffee in 2004, when that market was only just emerging in Peru. The bet was on high-value Arabica varieties —Geisha and Pink Bourbon— instead of greater volume. It was a decision that took years to pay off, but today it defines the identity of Chanchamayo specialty coffee.

Bringing the Geisha variety to Perené was a pioneering experiment in 2015. The agronomic demands of this variety are documented in Boquete, Panama. Here they were adapted to the Andean-Amazonian microclimate with the organic management typical of the area: shade regulated with native trees, systematic renewal pruning, green manures between rows and soil analysis by plot so that only permitted amendments are applied. On that basis a 36-hour honey fermentation protocol was fine-tuned to bring out the floral sweetness.

Today Bella Vista produces only 200 kg of Geisha a year. Every lot is cupped under SCA protocol before it is sold. Production is limited and quality consistent, with scores above 87 points. That is why this coffee is now one of the micro-lots most sought after by specialty roasters in Lima, Bogotá and Mexico City.

Cupping and lot control

The quality department evaluates every Geisha lot before it is sold, using the SCA cupping protocol. It scores fragrance and aroma, flavor, aftertaste, acidity, body, balance and uniformity on a 100-point scale. Only lots above 85 points go to market under the Bella Vista name. Each cupping record stays linked to its lot, so the buyer can trace the score back to the exact harvest they received.
